i’d like to tell you about this picture.

These ladies are my family. I married into these family members, but they are just as close to my heart as my blood family.

This was taken on a very sad day. This was the day we buried CJM’s Nanny. She was 94 years young when she left us. Thankfully, she left us peacefully and suddenly, as this meant she didn’t suffer. Thankfully, I got to spend 11 and a half years with Nanny and grew to love her as a third grandma. Thankfully, she left us with memories of her sassiness and class.

See, Nanny always wore her lips painted red. Nanny always accessorized. Nanny was never seen not ‘put together.’ Nanny was sassy. Nanny had stories. Nanny used to model. Nanny was beautiful.

We came back from her burial service pretty down. I decided we needed to honor Nanny with our best sass we could muster. I went to my makeup bag, got out my red lipstick and painted all our lips, grabbed roses for our hair, and with that we toasted to the most awesome Nanny ever.

I know she loved seeing us celebrate the life she lived. I know she lived a wonderful life and I pray I leave my children and grandchildren with memories like those she left us with. Nanny, we miss you already.
